Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday condemned as "flagrant US aggression on Syria" a USA missile strike on a on a Syrian air base this week and criticized Gulf Arab states for supporting it, state television reported.
The move was in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun earlier in the week which killed at least 86 people according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
But his call was wrapped in kind words about the Syrian president and condemnation of the US strikes carried out on a Syrian airbase on Friday, in retaliation for a chemical attack on civilians in a rebel-held area of Syria.
Graham spoke several days after Trump unilaterally ordered a missile attack on a Syrian airbase in response to Assad's deadly chemical weapons attack on civilians and as the Trump administration tried to explain its foreign policy.
"We do not have any information at suggests that Russian Federation was part of the military attack undertaken using the chemical weapons", Tillerson said.
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the USA strike "aggression against a sovereign state in violation of the norms of global law". "There's little question as to who was responsible for these attacks: It was Bashar al-Assad".
"By sending Tomahawk missiles to attack the airfield, aeroplane and equipment believed to be involved, it (the US) has sent a strong signal to the Syrian regime to think twice before using gas in the future", Fallon said.
USA -backed rebels groups have long pleaded for more US intervention and complained that Washington has only fought the Islamic State group.
Haley on Friday told a special session of the UN Security Council that the U.S. was "prepared to do more" in Syria and that it was Washington's "vital national interest" to stop the use and spread of chemical weapons.
Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, said "getting Assad out is not the only priority" and that countering Iran's influence in Syria was another.
If Syria carries out more chemical attacks, he said, "that is going to be clearly very damaging to US-Russian relations".
Trump took to his Twitter page to say, "The reason you don't generally hit runways is that they are easy and affordable to quickly fix (fill in and top)!"
Haley noted that ousting Assad was not the US's only priority.
"I think the real failure here has been Russia's failure to live up to its commitments under the chemical weapons agreements that were entered into in 2013", Tillerson said.
"The Russian soldiers on the base where this attack occurred, the Russians intentionally, in my view, left chemical weapons in the hand of Assad, their proxy", Graham continued.
Boris Johnson cancelled the visit, scheduled for 10 April, on Saturday, saying events in Syria had changed priorities.
