Following up on his stunning pole position in qualifying, Hamilton dominated proceedings to lead all 70 laps and take his sixth win in Canada.
Hamilton's third victory of the 2017 season after a performance to forget in Monaco saw him trim Sebastian Vettel's world championship lead to 12 points after his key title rival battled back to finish a hard day in fourth. Ninth place gave him two points, placing him 16th among 21 drivers. "We're all in it together, bad days and good days". "Montreal is a attractive place, and it's been home to me, I've grown with many fans who were teenagers when I started, and if I was going to get that special pole I wanted it to be here".
"I've never seen a group of people with such determination to win and to get back on top, and to get a one-two here is unbelievable and I'm proud to be part of that".
With the Force India cars battling with each other, Vettel overtook Ocon in the 66th lap and then, after leaving the track in a chicane, passed Perez as well. "It was incredible teamwork".
"We'll try to get both cars on the podium soon".
"There was a lot of potential in the auto, but I was not driving very well, and did not manage to put a good lap together". "Today we showed that we can have an answer (to Ferrari) if we put the work in".
"In terms of the direction of our developments, the guys in the factory now have a much better goal".
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel labelled himself as "a bit unfortunate" after picking up front-wing damage on the opening lap of the Canadian Grand Prix.
With Carlos Sainz and Romain Grosjean making contact, however, and the former then spinning and taking out the unfortunate Felipe Massa the safety auto was deployed*. That ended the race for Sainz and Massa, while Grosjean pitted for a new nose piece.
In between, Hamilton led every lap.
"It was clear with the damage we had that unless there is trouble at the front or we are extremely lucky with safety cars or whatever that it would be hard".
Vettel was still on the track, with another chance to catch Hamilton. It was a close battle with the Ferraris, I was gunning and I was pushing.
Drivers also had to deal with 29C heat and a strong wind.
Red Bull's Australian Daniel Ricciardo came home third, for the third race in a row, to complete the podium. "He (Hamilton) was the better man today but I am not entirely happy", said the German, victor of three of six races so far, compared to Hamilton's two.
"[The soft] was not quite as good as I was expecting so pace was missing". The vehicle should be very good in the race. As a kid, I always thought if I can get to F1 I want to emulate Ayrton, so the fact that I've now reached him in that area, I honestly can't believe it. I actually feel like jumping in the lake! Force India kept the ultrasoft-shod Ocon out until the 32nd lap, by which time he was running second to Hamilton. "Everything was positive today". He then shared a sip with actor Sir Patrick Stewart, who was serving as the post-race master of ceremonies.
A minute of silence was held before the race in honour of victims of the recent terrorist attack in London. Senna was likely the world's best driver when he was killed in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
