Maybe I do, I don't know. Spieth was at 4 over for the tournament - 16 shots behind leader Brian Harman.
Harman is playing in just his eighth major, and it's only the third time he has made the cut. But his 9-foot putt to save par edged just short of the hole, and he had to tap in for bogey. He didn't make a birdie the rest of the way and had to settle for a 70. He capped his round with a brilliant 3-wood from 310 yards and made an 8-foot eagle putt.
Thomas failed to make a birdie on the front nine.
Thomas, who has three victories this season on the PGA Tour, also moved into the lead with his putt at 18.
"I'm a part of history".
"It was a fantastic round of golf, given what we were dealing with to start the day", said Spieth, who finished the week at 1 over. He added: I felt really good, played really well.
"I'll definitely think about the mindset I had in winning Wells Fargo a few weeks ago".
Justin Thomas made history as he shot the lowest round ever in the tournament, posting a round of 63 after a spectacular effort of nine-under.
Harman would eventually birdie three of his final eight holes to take a one-shot lead.
Harman, who shared a four-way lead overnight, sat alone atop the leaderboard at 12-under 204 after a third-round 67. Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka and Tommy Fleetwood are tied for second, one shot back. Fowler is within two strokes of the lead at minus-10.
South Korea's 21-year-old Kim Si-woo, who became the youngest victor of the Players Championship in May, also shot a 68 and is one further back.
None of the dozen have won a major, and neither have the four non-Americans (Fleetwood, Kim Si-woo, Bernd Wiesberger and Hideki Matsuyama). "It's pretty jam packed", Thomas said.
Problem was the USGA set up those wide fairways expecting wind to make conditions hard, but the wind barely blew at all until Sunday. He got up and stretched his arms away from his body, then he stretched his fingers away from his palms, the way you do after typing out a long email.
Thomas and Harman will be paired together in the final group on Sunday during the final round. And then Morgan came undone.
"It's not going to be an easy day, for sure", Fowler said.
"I couldn't have shot any higher", Johnson said. Usually it's the opposite, but here it starts to calm down as the day goes on. It's the best I've struck the ball in a long time. "Yeah, I don't get those very often", Stricker said.
The course that's being played shouldn't determine the greatness of a round of golf. "But it isn't a U.S. Open course that I'm familiar with the way it was set up". He's handled the pressure all week.
McIlroy has won four major championships but has been battling a rib injury for much of this year. It's the first time that has happened since 1998-2000.
Ahead of what promises to be a gripping Sunday showdown at Erin Hills, we take a look at those best placed to break new ground by taking the title. "I can see the guys in the afternoon shooting that score easily", Oosthuizen said. And it's just kind of getting that out of your head and just playing against who you're playing against like it's a regular tournament.
