Though Alex's determination to take over Spencer's life doesn't entirely make sense (she wants to have true friends who will always care about her and thus wants to take over Spencer's life, but it certainly seems like she has wonderful friends in Charlotte and Archer), it does provide a great opportunity. It's an absolutely insane finale, and frankly, the flawless way for the Freeform drama to bow out after all of these years. I just love the idea that it's still Rosewood, Pennsylvania: Ghost Town. "So I have a lot of faith that the audience is just going to enjoy it". We're on the same page. Thank you and I love you all very much.
As for what it's like to say goodbye to a show after so long? How many people were privy to it?
Now we can all get back to real life ― far, far removed from Rosewood. "Where they insisted I would need to do high school for about 6 more years".
As for how she kept the secret for so long, she said she did the first thing that came to mind.
I. Marlene King and the PLL cast have been reassuring fans since the beginning of the season that every question would be answered by the show's end. When I slipped and everybody looked at me, I was like, "Oh this is what it feels like if you f-k up as Alex".
Yes, we did that.
"Till DeAth Do Us PArt", the season 7 and series finale, aired at 8 p.m. EST and then again at 8 p.m. PT for those on the West Coast.
What were the conversations like between you and Troian Bellisario to help her develop this entirely new persona?
MK: We haven't really talked about it. The Liars always encourage one another in their goals, whether Aria is co-writing her debut novel or Spencer is pursuing political advocacy in D.C. These girls inspire one another to dream, and dream big. Not all Brits speak the same, and the showrunners opted to keep Alex from a very specific region. It was enough drama to sustain the story, but not so much that it couldn't be resolved in the single episode. She said, "You can not tell anybody". I really didn't know anything about her. Now after seven seasons and 160 episodes, it's game over for the Liars and their fans. Spencer having a twin is the best way the show could've ended. It took me to days where I couldn't stop laughing, and nights when I wished I could have been sleeping in bed, instead of running in the wet and cold for the umpteenth take at 5AM but somehow we made it through and we had fun even then. That poor handsome man! As we knew one "A" was coming to an end, yes, we would start to think about the next. So, that was a happy accident that came out of Julian's availability.
The first, and second most shocking, A was none other than a friend of the group and that's why she wasn't suspected - Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish). How and why did you decide to inject the narrative with a final set of twins? We started playing with the twin theory early on. I had only one before.
It turns out that Spencer is an identical twin - and things didn't turn out so well for her look-alike sibling. But, if you don't or you can't remember the password, it's only a few bucks on Amazon Video.
We really wanted to make it possible for the fans to figure it out.
