Apple is working on "anniversary model" allegedly the iPhone 8.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also provided predictions for the upcoming OLED iPhone 8 and updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Meanwhile Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has also reported that Apple is testing a similar feature to unlock the iPhone 8 with facial recognition.
Tips and talk of the possibility of removing the Touch ID sensor from iPhone 8 has turned over a new rumor - one about faces. The company is looking at iris scanning for unlocking the smartphone.
The report says the new system will be much faster than Touch ID, and will be able to unlock an iPhone "within a few hundred milliseconds". It's not clear whether this will replace Touch ID, though.
According to the investor note, Kuo said he believes Apple's new premium handset, dubbed the iPhone 8, will feature a home button under the screen. There's also been talk that AAPL is going to be running low on OLED displays for its iPhone 8. Rumours have circulated saying Apple will build the sensor into the screen itself, but now one analyst has poured scorn on that.
It was speculated last month that Apple's flagship iPhone 8 may dispense of the physical home button altogether and opt for an on-screen option instead.
Fingerprint scanners that rest below displays are still relatively new, and thus pose two problems - speed and price. However, it's said to be at the testing stage and might not make it to the iPhone 8.
As you can see in the image, the iPhone 8 render created by the designer showcases an nearly bezel-less display white no fingerprint sensor on the front. This leak is not new because others reports too have suggested the same. The rest of Ming-Chi Kuo's report confirms the rumoured "full-screen" bezel-less design. The 5.8-inches iPhone, will have a bezel-less OLED display.
According to Kuo, the iPhone with the OLED display will have the highest screen-to-body ratio among all the current smartphones in the market. The renders were created by noted designer Martin Hejek who has made iPhone renders before.
There was no launching timing mentioned in the report but Kuo has earlier maintained that due to production and component supply issues, the next iPhone delivery could be delayed. He also claims that all three phones will come with support for wireless charging.
