A family's claims that R. Kelly is the mastermind behind a brainwashed sex cult full of young, impressionable women have led one Fulton County official to call for an investigation into the allegations.
No one should be above the law, because of their income or their zip code. Wolf Creek Amphitheatre and Fulton County should not be vehicles through which R. Kelly can increase his notoriety, gloss over and normalize his behavior, and continue to profit and fund his crimes against women.
A statement shared by Kelly's spokesman Trevian Kutti and attributed to his attorneys called the allegations against Kelly "false and ill-motived" and said the singer "denies any and all wrongdoing".
New information learned and uncovered by law enforcement has severely raised the level of concern in the allegations of recording artist R. Kelly sexually exploiting and holding young girls and women against their will at his home in Johns Creek and elsewhere.
But according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Johns Creek police Lt. Chris Byers said on Friday "there is no new evidence in the closed investigation".
Again, as a father of a teenager daughter and a responsible leader in this community, we have a moral responsibility to stand up for people who can not protect themselves.
Parents and former members of Kelly's reported "inner circle" have accused the superstar of brainwashing women and keeping them in a "cult" where he controls their every move, according to the BuzzFeed report.
Fox 5 Atlanta later reported that the Fulton County District Attorney stated that no criminal investigation was now taking place. DeRogatis, a veteran music journalist, was also the first to report on Kelly's alleged sexual relationships with minors.
Eaves said even though Kelly hasn't been charged with or convicted of any crimes related to the media report, he felt comfortable speaking out "on a moral basis".
"You have to ask for food. He is a puppet master", Cheryl Mack told BuzzFeed.
"Mr. Kelly is outraged by the ongoing efforts of the Fulton County Board of Commissions and its chairman to interfere with his business interests and now, absent any authority, attempt to have him targeted for investigation".
