Reshoots were always planned, but director Zack Snyder was forced to exit the film earlier this year to tend to unfortunate family matters, at which point Joss Whedon came on to bring Justice League across the finish line. It was reported a few weeks back that the massive reshoots were costing the studio an additional $25 million dollars and taking much longer than a movie would typically take while filming reshoots.
"It's a little bit unorthodox", Affleck said (via TheWrap). Zack had a family tragedy, and stepped off, which was disgusting. Then again, we all know that Darkseid is eventually coming, so it may be tough to really sell Steppenwolf as a formidable opponent for the titular team when audiences are aware that he's just the appetizer, so to speak. The most amusing detail in that Variety report is that the moustache Cavill grew for Mission Impossible 6 has to stick around while he's shooting Justice League, since he's not done working on the former. "[Justice League is] an interesting product of two directors, both with kind of unique visions, both with really strong takes".
"The original ending of the movie from what I understand was that he [Steppenwolf] was kind of playing the Silver Surfer role and Darkseid playing kind of the Galactus role, and the ending of the movie was a cliffhanger and Justice League 2 was going to be Justice League vs. Darkseid". As a direct effect, the character of Steppenwolf has been reinforced and becomes the great antagonist of the film, particularly through the addition of a scene with Robin Wright, a flashback that we would learn more about this threat. "I have to say, I really love working with Zack, and I really love the stuff we've done with Joss". The combination of both could yield a very interesting movie in Justice League.
Based on what Ben Affleck had to say about the finished product for Justice League, it seems that the future is looking bright for the DCEU.
"This is a really nice time to work in DC". They're getting it right. We'll have to wait and see, but there certainly is a lot of conflicting information regarding Justice League.
November 17th is the release date of Justice League, a project following the Batman v. Superman Dawn of Justice that will combine this summers hit, Wonder Woman, with Batman, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, and possibly a returning Superman.
