Just a day earlier, North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency said its army would complete plans in mid-August to fire four intermediate-range missiles over Japan to land near Guam. He described the prospect of war as "catastrophic" and added that diplomatic efforts to solve the North Korea nuclear crisis were yielding results.
So far, the language has only met with increasingly charged language from Pyongyang, which has threatened to attack Guam, the American territory in the Pacific that is home to a large military base.
Jenna Gaminde told a press briefing on Thursday that the residents would be immediately notified by the 15 All-Hazards Alert Warning System sirens, located in low-lying areas throughout the island, the Pacific Daily News reported.
"And we assure our civilian populists, we assure the people that preparations are being made for any eventuality and we will inform communities that may be affected", Purisima added.
