The Cowboys have scored on their first five series, led by great playmaking from running back Justice Hill and quarterback Mason Rudolph, to lead 42-7 in the second quarter. Washington's 29 receiving touchdowns are the most among active players in the FBS.
On Saturday afternoon, Oklahoma State traveled to Heinz Field to take on the Pitt Panthers in a matchup of non-conference opponents. He just made a lot of plays. By that time, Rudolph will hopefully have gotten his due. He later connected with Marcell Ateman for a 69-yard score and added three TD passes - of eight, 40 and 48 yards - to Jalen McCleskey before halftime. Washington had three catches for 68 yards. But the Cowboys will return home to open Big 12 play against TCU on September 23. It was the first touchdown catch of the Jenks' star's college career.
"They all did their job", Rudolph said. He completed throws to all levels of the field, showing the velocity needed for the tough sideline throws required in the National Football League, as well as excellent touch and trajectory on his deep balls, allowing his receivers space to run under them.
Pitt (1-2) simply couldn't keep up.
Rudolph has had his way with the Panthers defense, throwing for a 423 yards (breaking his own single-half school record) and five touchdowns through the first two quarters. The rematch was a mismatch.
The Cowboy's 49 points in the first half were the most given up by Pitt since it allowed 52 in the first half of a 72-0 loss to Ohio State in 1996.
After just a few minutes, it became apparent that Pitt was no match for Oklahoma State's ridiculous offense. Rudolph finished the day 23-for-32 with 497 passing yards, five touchdowns and an interception.
Pitt has had a frightful, no-good, very bad day at home against No. 9 Oklahoma State. Rudolph initially looked to his left, freezing Pitt's safeties before firing the pass to his right where he had McCleskey and Washington running complementary high and low routes. Cowboys have won two straight over the Horned Frogs.
