According to World Economic Forum (WEF) ranking India has slipped down by two place and is positioned at number 51 in global competitiveness.
Other the other hand China has managed to improve its ranking and is standing on 27th position.
The WEF has ranked Switzerland as No.1 because of its ability to provide the most competitive environment on various fronts.
Chad, from African continent is placed at the bottom of the list and it is standing at 139th position.
India slipped to 51st position from 49th due to its poor report in a areas such as Infrastructure education and health.
The report said maintained that India has scored well in financial sector areas, attaining the 17th rank globally in terms of its financial markets, 44th in business sophistication and 39th in innovation, but failed on the basic drivers of competitiveness.
Technologically advanced, Sweden from Europe is placed second followed by Singapore and America.
WEF has considered areas like social, political and economy as the parameters for global competitive ranking.
Margareta Dryeniek Hanouz, senior economist and director of the WEF, said, “Though Switzerland has “[state-supported] monopolies in key sectors, it maintains overall economic stability and largely open trade and investment policies.”
According to Thierry Geiger, an associate director and co-author of the report, rural India has widespread poverty, poor health and education facilities and poor infrastructure. The Urban India is experiencing rapid growth.
India is facing budget shortfalls, high public debt and high inflation. On the other hand, China has over USD 2 trillion in forex reserves and a sound macro-economic environment.
